It can be used as far north as Murakami on the Uetsu Line, east out to Oguni on the Yonesaka Line, east out to Hideya on the Banetsu Saisen Line, south to Ojiya on the Shinetsu and Joetsu Lines, south to Izumozaki on the Echigo Line, and west to Yahiko on the Yahiko line.
