Contractual Issues

Your Last JET Paycheck

The final pay will be deposited on the 21st of July for those leaving after that date. For people leaving before the 21st, the last pay will be deposited a few days before departure. Check with your supervisor. For Municipal JETs, the date of the final paycheck deposit may vary according to your Municipality's pay schedule. The last pay packet may be less than usual in the case that you are not working a full month. Likewise, if your first paycheck was smaller than usual, the last one may be bigger. One day's wage (before deductions) is about 13,000 yen. If pension deductions were taken off your first paycheck, they should not be taken off your last. But please make sure you have made 12, 24, or 36 pension payments (depending on year). This is important for the pension refund.

The Last Day of Your Contract

2008 JETs: Group A: July 27; Group B & C: August 3

You are expected to work on the last day of your contract, unless of course, your contracting organization allows you to take nenkyu. If you wish to take nenkyu at the end of your contract, please ask well in advance. Unpaid leave is very difficult to obtain at any time and is not allowed at the end of the contract.
